Laguna Hills, CA – September 7, 2010 – MSA recently announced the acquisition of General Monitors, a privately owned and an industry pioneer and leader in fire and gas detection systems headquartered in Lake Forest, California for the amount of $280 million.  According to MSA, a publicly traded company headquartered in Pennsylvania, General Monitors currently employs 225 people globally and will continue to operate from California.

SST President and Chief Operating Officer, William Hanway released a statement wishing all the employees and management of General Monitors all the best as the company goes through the transition.  “General Monitors is a fire and gas detection industry leader to which SST aspires to be.  I’ve always admired the great people who work there and I am saddened that they have been sold.  Although the acquisition of General Monitors gives MSA an immediate and deeper market penetration in the area of fire and gas detection, we at SST remain committed in our long term strategy in engineering high-quality and reliable fire and gas detection systems.  Bigger is not always better and we look forward to the new face of the competition.  I strongly believe we are in a great position to take advantage of opportunities well into the future as SST’s management in the past four years has implemented an aggressive strategy for growth and we continue to expand our sales operations domestically and abroad.  We are strategically aiming for double digit growth year-over-year and we are continuing with our plans to expand our manufacturing operations in our corporate headquarters here in Laguna Hills, California.
