Alarm Control Panels

The Alarm Control Panel receives electrical signals from the various fire detectors and gas sensors located through out the protected area. The control panel displays the status of each connected detector or sensor, reporting alarm conditions and measured gas concentrations. Alarms result in activation of alarm signals to alert personnel at both the panel and the protected locations, and in many cases initiate release of fire extinguishants in the protected areas. The control panel also reports any detector/sensor device that is not working properly, so that maintenance personnel may be dispatched to repair the device. Alarm panels usually include an emergency source of power to enable the Fire & Gas System to remain operational during failures of the buildings normal electric light and power service.

NOVA-5000 Detection and Control System

NOVA-5000 Detection and Control System is customized for each installation by selecting from a number of different control modules to perform the required functions. The selected assortment of modules plug into one or more racks, which interconnect the modules to perform the required protection functions. NOVA-5000 Detection and Control System is an overview of the entire system and details some of the many functions available by selecting the various available modules.

Input Modules

Model 5010 Dual Channel Smoke/Fire Detection Input Module
The SST model 5010 Two Channel Smoke/Fire Detection Module provides two independent detection input channels for the NOVA-5000 Detection and Control System. Each input circuit is designed for a two-wire "Class B" circuit, and can supply the operating voltage required to power Ionization and Photoelectric Smoke Detectors, while the same time receiving alarm signals from these devices.  Each alarm input module may also receive signals from any device that initiates a contact closure upon alarm, such as fixed temperature or rate-of-rise Heat Detectors and Manual Alarm Stations.

Model 5020 Combustible Gas Detection Module
The SST Model 5020 Combustible Gas Detection Modules are used to monitor the concentration of combustible gases which may accumulate in a protected area.  The module can be used with any sensor that provides a standard 4-20 mA output signal.  The sensor input on the module is completely isolated, so that it can be fed from a transmitter that is referenced to + DC, - DC, ground, or floating.  Because this is a current loop, other devices, such as a PLC input or a data acquisition system, may be connected into the same loop without affecting the Model 5020 indications.  A 24 VDC output, derived from the redundant NOVA-5000 System power supplies, is provided for powering the field sensor.

Model 5021 Series Toxic Gas Detection Module
The SST Model 5021 Series Toxic Gas Detection Modules monitor the concentration of toxic gases which may accumulate in a protected area.  The module works with any sensor that has a 4-20 mA output signal.  The sensor input on the module is completely isolated, so that it can be fed from a transmitter that is referenced to +DC, -DC, ground, or floating.  Because this is a current loop, other devices, such as a PLC input or a data acquisition system, may be connected into the same loop without affecting the Model 5021 readings.  A 24 VDC output, derived from the redundant NOVA-5000 System power supplies, is provided for powering the field sensor.

Model 5026 Oxygen Gas Detection Module
The SST Model 5026 Oxygen Deficiency/Enrichment Gas Detection Module monitors the concentration of oxygen in a protected area.  The module works with any sensor that has 4-20 mA output signal.

Model 5028 Intelligent Combustible and Toxic Gas Detection Modules
The SST Model 5028 Intelligent Gas Detection Modules, when connected to suitable combustible or toxic gas sensors, monitor the gas concentrations in a protected area.

Model 5029 4-20 mA Analog Input Module
The SST Model 5029 Analog Input Module is used to monitor any process variable that can be converted to the industry standard 4-20 mA output signal.  The analog input on the module is completely isolated, so that it can be fed from a transmitter that is referenced to +DC, -DC, ground, or floating.  Because this is a current loop, other devices, such as a PLC input or a data acquisition system, may be connected into the same loop without affecting the Model 5029 indications.

Module Racks & Enclosures

The SST Model 5300 Module Mounting Rack provides mounting space for up to 16 standard NOvA-5000 System Modules.  It occupies 5 1/4 inches of vertical mounting space in an EIA standard 19 inch wide cabinet.  The rack has 4, 8, or 16 sets of "card guides" into which the printed circuit card that is part of each NOVA-5000 module slides.  A printed circuit "backplane" on the rear of the rack is equipped with connectors which mate with the connectors which mate with the connectors on the rear of each module.
